Blackberry 10.2.1.537 Now w/Android Apps!

Image
Blackberry recently released their new OS, version 10.2.1.537 to the public and the changes they have made are quite impressive. There are lot of things to cover in this OS update, but what I really want to talk about today is the ability to download Android apps directly to the device without the need of side loading them via PB App Manager or Google Chrome. To load the apps go to the 1mobile website and do the following steps: Step 1: Download 1mobile app to phone. Select Phone app for mobile phone or Tablet for Playbook. Step 2: The app will show up in your active downloads as a .apk file. Once it says Download is Complete tap on the file and Install. The app will show up on the home screen as a regular app. Step 3: Download your favourite Android Apps. Although this app does allow you to download Android apps, it isn't complete stocked with apps like the Google Play Store is. I was able to find all the apps that I currently run on Android no problem...

Personal Assistant for Android

Image
One of my colleagues recently e-mailed me about a great personal assistant app that I would like to share. The app is currently only for Android and can be found on the Google Play Store. The name of the app is called "Agent". Agent is an app that runs in the background on any Android smartphone or tablet. The interface is very nicely laid out and user friendly. Agent claims they solve five every day needs; battery, sleep, parking, meetings and driving. BATTERY  - The battery feature detects low battery status and disables unused features of the phone. SLEEP  - This option allows you to sleep comfortably without and interruptions. You can set an auto text reply informing callers that you're sleeping and if they text the word "urgent" your phone will ring loudly to wake you up. Anyone that calls you twice within a 5 minute time frame will automatically get their call pushed through and your device will ring. The sleep option also allows you to ...

iPhone Storage... Expandable??

Image
Yesterday I posted a blog about a great product line up of battery cases by a company called Mophie. I know at this point if I post another blog about them people will start to think I am a sales rep for the brand, but I assure you I just want to spread the good word of some amazing products! One of the biggest complaints for iPhone users is the fact the device does not support expandable memory such as an SD card. Apple makes it very difficult for us to have more space for our pictures, music and apps without paying an extra $100-$120 for 16GB of flash memory. There is another group of people that are willing to pay the extra money for the 64GB model, but still need more space after that. While researching for answer to a problem that many iPhone users face as well as myself, I came across a couple worth while solutions: The first option is a Wifi Hard Drive or Cloud Drive. This is an external hard drive that can store anywhere from 16GB to 4TB! More than enough space. While...

The Battery Debacle

Image
Working in the Service Department, the biggest complaint I hear from clients is the ongoing battle with battery life. It's no surprise that the battery in our Smartphones can't keep up with our day to day life. Let's be honest, we use our phones for virtually everything. But do not fret, there is a solution! A little old company called Mophie has designed a battery pack that fits just like a standard case on your beloved smartphone. There's no need to worry about your phone lasting you throughout the day, especially for people like myself that are absolutely addicted to checking for e-mails and other notifications. There are many other companies that have created a similar product, but I am only discussing Mophie because of personal experience. The model that I used was the Mophie Helium Juice Pack for the iPhone 5. With the flick of a switch at the back of the case, I saw my battery life improve from 6-8 hours to 12-14 hours. The case itself isn't te...

Big Changes

I have recently changed the name of my blog to reflect new topics and new material that I want to focus on rather than just "mobile rumours". My new blog will feature any troubleshooting tips that I come across in the field, new and upcoming device information as well as video demos on my Youtube Channel. I plan on posting at least once a week at this point, maybe more..... probably more. Please feel free to reach out to me and let me know what kind of content you want to see. Any suggestions are more than welcome and stay tuned to see What's on Tech!

Samsung Galaxy Camera 2

Image
I thought this was worth mentioning. There aren't a whole lot of people that have use of a Camera with a cellular connection, but for all those people that can not wait to get home and upload their pictures via Wifi or USB to their computer, here it is, The Samsung Galaxy Camera, the sequel. The Galaxy Camera 2 sports a 4.8 inch touchscreen display, a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of on board storage, 2 GB of RAM and a new feature called "Smart Mode Selfie Alarm" which gives the user the attention they deserve when taking a selfie shot. This feature will take 5 quick shots and select the best one to post on social media or share with a friend. The coolest part about this camera is the retro look they gave it. The classic black leather and chrome look really makes this camera pop. The Galaxy Camera 2 will show up in stores later this year with a price point between $600-650.
