Tips for Switching to Samsung Galaxy S6

Switching to a new phone can be extremely painful and scary. Making sure that all your data is transferred successfully is almost impossible. Here are some great tips for making the switch to the Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge this Friday.

For Android Users:

  • Get yourself set up with Samsung Smart Switch - You can either download this directly from the Google Play Store OR onto your PC or MAC computer. This app transfers most of your data (Contacts, Calendars, WIFI Passwords, App Data, Music, Alarm Clocks, Pictures and Videos)

  • Use Cloud Services - It's a pretty good idea to jump on the Cloud bandwagon. Cloud storage ensures your content is backed up and accessible on multiple devices. If something goes wrong with your phone and you can't access the touch screen, no problem. Use things like your Google Account to back up your personal data, Google Drive for your Photos, Videos and Documents and lastly create Samsung Account so you can Lock, Track and Wipe your device in the event of loss or theft

For iPhone Users:

  • Download Samsung Smart Switch - This app will also work with iPhones, but make sure you have backed everything up on iCloud ahead of time. Download the app on the S6 and run it. You will be prompted to enter in your Apple ID or iCloud login. From here you can select what content you want to be transferred. Keep in mind that applications will not be transferred due to the difference in OS, however Smart Switch will download your app list and show you where to find it on the Google Play Store. For music you can import your iTunes library into Samsung Kies. This is available on either PC or MAC.

  • Wipe your iPhone - Apple introduced a handy dandy security feature called Find My iPhone a while back. The main benefit of this program was to lock, track or wipe your device in the event of loss or theft. The secondary benefit that if someone does manage to wipe your phone, they won't be able to activate it without your password. Before you wipe your device, make sure iCloud and more specifically Find My iPhone is disabled.
